🦉 HANDMADE OWL & WOOD DUCK BOX

Our handmade Owl & Wood Duck Box is a large, purpose-built nest box suited to Barn Owls and Australian Wood Ducks. Each one is individually built in Queensland from reclaimed pallet timber.

It features a generous 130mm entrance, a roomy interior and a timber balcony that wraps around the front and sides, giving birds a place to land, perch and look out before entering the box.

🐣 DUCKLING SAFE DESIGN

Wood Duck ducklings leave the nest just a day or so after hatching by jumping up and out of the entrance. If the entrance is too high above the nest floor, ducklings can become trapped inside.

That's why this box is built so the distance from the floor to the bottom of the entrance hole is 170mm or less, a height ducklings can manage. It's based on a proven design that was modified specifically to prevent ducklings from becoming trapped.

🌿 Natural Timber (Raw) – $80

Our original handcrafted finish, left untreated to showcase the natural character of the reclaimed timber. It can be left natural or finished by you if desired.

🛢️ Natural Timber (Oiled) – $90

Finished with premium 100% Pure Linseed Oil on the exterior to enhance the timber's natural grain and colour while helping protect it from the weather.

🎨 Painted Exterior (Sealed) – $100

Finished with durable exterior paint in your choice of green, brown, black or camouflage, then sealed with clear lacquer for added weather protection. Ideal for blending into your garden or bush setting.

🧹 CLEANING & MAINTENANCE

The removable floor panel lets you clear out old nesting material and check the condition of the box without dismantling it.

Never open, clean or disturb a nest box while it is occupied. Always wait until the birds have left and the breeding season has finished before carrying out any cleaning or maintenance.

🌿 INSTALLATION

Mount the box high on a large, sturdy tree or pole with a clear flight path to the entrance, and position the entrance away from prevailing weather where possible.

For Barn Owls, choose a quiet spot near open grassland or paddocks where they hunt.

For Wood Ducks, a location near a dam, creek or other water is ideal, with clear ground below for ducklings when they leave the nest.

Professional installation by a suitably experienced arborist or nest box installer is recommended for higher installations.

Wildlife may sometimes inspect or occupy boxes intended for another species, so occupancy cannot be guaranteed.
