🏑 HANDMADE IN QUEENSLAND!

🌿 MADE FROM RECYCLED TIMBER

Every Potting Mad Wildlife Nest Box is individually handcrafted in Queensland using reclaimed pallet timber, giving old timber a second life while helping create safe homes for Australia's incredible native wildlife.

Each nest box is unique, with its own natural timber grain, rustic character and handcrafted finish.

🎨 CHOOSE YOUR STYLE

Our handmade Wildlife Nest Boxes are available in three finishes to suit your backyard and preferred level of weather protection.

🌿 Natural Timber (Raw) – $60

Our original handcrafted nest box made from reclaimed timber with a natural rustic finish. It is left untreated to showcase the character of the timber and can be left natural or finished by you if desired.

πŸ›’οΈ Natural Timber (Oiled) – $70

Finished with premium 100% Pure Tung Oil on the exterior to enhance the timber's natural grain and colour while helping protect it from the weather.

🎨 Painted Exterior (Sealed) – $80

Finished with durable exterior paint in your choice of green, brown, black or camouflage, then sealed on the exterior with clear lacquer for added weather protection and durability. Ideal for blending naturally into your garden or bush setting.

Select your preferred colour when ordering, or contact us if you have a specific colour in mind.

🦜 CHOOSE YOUR SPECIES

Every Potting Mad Wildlife Nest Box is custom built to suit the species you select when ordering.

The species you choose helps determine the most suitable overall box design, including the box dimensions, entrance hole size and shape, internal features and whether an external perch, landing support or climbing aid is appropriate.

Different Australian birds and mammals have different nesting requirements, so the best nest box design can vary considerably from species to species. Once we receive your initial work request, we'll confirm the intended species and work out the most appropriate box design before construction begins.

This means the finished box may vary slightly from the standard dimensions and design shown on this page where a different size, shape, entrance or internal layout would provide a more suitable nesting habitat for your selected wildlife.

Bird nest boxes are generally supplied without an external perch unless appropriate for the selected species, as many native hollow-nesting birds do not require one and a perch may provide easier access for unwanted species such as Common Mynas.

Available species include:

🦝 Brushtail Possum

🦝 Ringtail Possum (although a possum drey may be a more suitable option)

🦜 Rainbow Lorikeet

🐦 Crimson / Eastern Rosella

πŸͺΆ Kookaburra

⭐ Custom Species (contact us if your species isn't listed)

β• ENTRANCE HOLE SIZE GUIDE

The entrance hole is customised for the wildlife species selected when ordering. The measurements below are provided as a general guide, with the final size and shape chosen to suit the species and the individual handcrafted box.

🦝 Brushtail Possum β€” Typically 100–120mm
A larger entrance designed to comfortably accommodate the stockier body of a Brushtail Possum.

🦝 Ringtail Possum β€” Typically 70–80mm
A smaller entrance better suited to the more slender body of a Ringtail Possum while helping discourage larger possums from taking over the box.

🦜 Rainbow Lorikeet β€” Typically 60–70mm
Sized to provide access for Rainbow Lorikeets while helping discourage larger birds from occupying the box.

🐦 Crimson / Eastern Rosella β€” Typically 75–90mm
A larger bird entrance designed to comfortably accommodate Crimson / Eastern Rosellas.

πŸͺΆ Kookaburra β€” Typically 140–180mm
A much larger entrance suited to the size and nesting behaviour of Laughing Kookaburras. Kookaburra nest boxes may use a large or arched entrance rather than the smaller circular openings commonly used for parrots. The final entrance size and shape will be selected to suit the overall box design.

⭐ Custom Species β€” Sized to Suit
The entrance size and overall box design will be selected according to the requirements of your requested wildlife species. Please contact us before ordering if your species is not listed.

Entrance measurements are approximate and may vary slightly because every box is individually handcrafted from reclaimed timber. The final entrance size and shape will be selected within an appropriate range for the chosen species and box design. Wildlife may sometimes inspect or occupy boxes intended for another species, so occupancy cannot be guaranteed.

πŸͺœ DESIGNED FOR YOUR WILDLIFE

Each Wildlife Nest Box is purpose-built for its intended occupant.

Rather than simply changing the entrance hole, we consider the overall nesting requirements of the selected species and adjust the design where appropriate.

🐦 Bird Nest Boxes

βœ” Includes an internal timber ladder beneath the entrance hole where appropriate for the selected species, helping young birds safely climb out when they are ready to leave the nest.

βœ” Entrance hole size and shape are customised specifically for your selected bird species.

βœ” Overall box dimensions and internal layout can be adjusted where appropriate for the selected species.

βœ” Kookaburra boxes feature a significantly larger entrance and may use a different overall box design to better suit their size and natural nesting behaviour.

βœ” External perches are generally not fitted to bird nest boxes unless appropriate for the selected species or specifically requested. Native hollow-nesting birds do not usually require a traditional perch, and adding one may provide easier access for unwanted species such as Common Mynas.

🦝 Possum Nest Boxes

βœ” Entrance hole customised for the selected possum species.

βœ” Typically 100–120mm for Brushtail Possums and 70–80mm for Ringtail Possums.

βœ” Spacious, sheltered interior designed to provide a safe and comfortable resting place.

βœ” Rough internal timber surfaces help possums grip and climb towards the entrance.

βœ” An external perch or landing support can be included where appropriate for the selected species.

βœ” Overall box dimensions and layout can be adjusted where appropriate to suit the selected possum species.

🧹 REMOVABLE FLOOR FOR CLEANING

Each nest box includes a removable floor panel, allowing the interior to be accessed for cleaning, inspection or maintenance when required.

The removable panel helps make it easier to clear out old nesting material and check the condition of the box without needing to dismantle the entire structure.

Never open, clean or disturb a nest box while it is occupied. Always wait until you are certain the animals have left and the breeding season has finished before carrying out any cleaning or maintenance.

🌳 HELP SUPPORT NATIVE WILDLIFE

Natural tree hollows are disappearing across Australia due to land clearing, development and the loss of mature trees.

Installing a Wildlife Nest Box helps provide valuable shelter and nesting opportunities for native wildlife, encouraging biodiversity while creating a welcoming habitat in your own backyard.

Whether you're supporting colourful native birds, providing a nesting site for a Laughing Kookaburra or creating a safe home for a local possum, every nest box makes a difference.

πŸ“ APPROXIMATE DIMENSIONS

Please note that every Potting Mad Wildlife Nest Box is individually handcrafted from reclaimed timber, so dimensions may vary slightly. The measurements below are provided as a guide for our standard nest box only.

The final dimensions and overall design may vary depending on the wildlife species selected. Larger species such as the Laughing Kookaburra may require different box proportions, entrance designs or internal features to provide a more suitable nesting space.

Once we receive your initial work request, we'll confirm the intended species and determine the most appropriate box design before construction begins.

βœ” Front Height: Approximately 350mm

βœ” Roof: Approximately 350mm Γ— 300mm

🌿 INSTALLATION

For best results, mount your Wildlife Nest Box approximately 3–5 metres above ground on a mature tree or suitable post, depending on the selected species.

Different wildlife species may prefer different mounting heights, locations and orientations. Laughing Kookaburra boxes, for example, may be better suited to a higher installation location where a suitable and safe mounting position is available.

Position the entrance away from prevailing weather where possible and choose a quiet location to encourage wildlife to move in.

For boxes installed at greater heights, professional installation by a suitably experienced arborist or wildlife nest box installer is recommended.

❀️ HANDMADE WITH PURPOSE

Every Potting Mad Wildlife Nest Box is handcrafted by our family in Queensland using reclaimed timber that would otherwise go to landfill.

Because different wildlife species have different nesting needs, we'll consider your selected species when preparing your box and determine the most suitable design as part of your initial work request.

By choosing a handmade nest box, you're not only supporting a small Australian family businessβ€”you're also helping create much-needed homes for Australia's amazing native wildlife.

Every box tells a story. Every box provides a home. 🏑🌿
